In response to an article in the New York Post quoting True Social CEO David Nunes as saying during an appearance on Fox that Trump encouraged Musk to buy Twitter, which Musk denied, noting that he had not been in contact with the former president.
Musk said of the claim in a Twitter post: "This is a mistake.. I have had no contact, directly or indirectly, with Trump, who has publicly stated that he will be exclusively on the True Social."
Elon Musk reached last April to buy Twitter with members of its board of directors for $ 44 billion, and Republican members of Congress celebrated the purchase because of Musk's stated intention to restore "freedom of expression" to the platform.
Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers have expressed concerns that Twitter's restrictions on disinformation and inflammatory speech could be relaxed, and former President Trump may return to the podium after banning it in the wake of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.
Both Trump and Nunes have said the former president will not return to Twitter after the purchase, and Musk has not commented publicly on whether he will bring back Trump's account.
Trump earlier praised Musk's move to buy the platform, saying: "I hope Elon buys Twitter because he will make improvements to it and he is a good man."
